Bucerias Logistics

Logistics for Stillness Touch Immersion

I look forward to welcoming you to the Stillness Touch Immersion Course in February; here is a logistical guide for navigating Bucerías.

Airport

  • Your Destination Airport: You will fly into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR).

Bucerías is a 20-to-30-minute drive north (about 12 miles/20 km) from PVR.

  • "Shark Tank" Warning (Important): After you clear customs and retrieve your luggage, which will be x-rayed, you walk through a final arrival hall before the exterior exit doors. This room is filled with aggressive timeshare salespeople offering "free taxis" or discounted excursions.

Do not stop or talk to anyone in this room.

Keep walking straight ahead, until you pass through the final sliding glass doors out into the fresh, open-air arrival area where you will meet the taxi area.

  • Airport to Bucerías Transit: To minimize stress, I highly recommend booking a private airport transfer before you fly out. Trusted, professional local agencies like Only Rivieram Group, Palmera Transportation, or Aeromovil PVR will monitor your flight, wait for you outside the sliding doors with your name on a sign, and bring you directly to your lodging.

Taxi & Rideshare Breakdown
The cost relies heavily on whether you choose convenience or a short walk to save money:

  • Official Airport Taxi (Inside Terminal):A standard sedan for 1 to 3 passengers costs $32 to $46 USD($590 to $960 MXN). A larger van for up to 5 passengers typically jumps to $68 to $90 USD.

  • The "Pedestrian Bridge" Hack (City Taxi / Uber / InDrive):Federal airport regulations ban regular city cabs and rideshares from picking up directly at the arrival terminal. If you walk out of the airport, turn left, and cross the pedestrian bridge over the highway, you can catch a local yellow city taxi or order an Uber/InDrive. This drops the price to about $350 to $500 MXN ($18 to $25 USD).

Alternative Options

Transportation Type

Estimated Cost

Details & Pick-up Location

Uber/InDrive

$250 - $400 MX

Requires crossing the pedestrian bridge. Rates fluctuate based on surge pricing.

Private Transfer

Starts at $67 USD (1,2oo MX)

Pre-booked online; includes a driver waiting for you with a sign, flight tracking, and meet-and-greet.

Compostela Bus

$30 - $40 MX

The most economical route. Caught outside the airport under the pedestrian bridge; look for the white bus with green lettering.

Rental Car: Unless you are going on a trip, you will not need a rental car.

Money, Currency, & Cards

  • Cash is King (sort of): While credit cards are common in the US and Europe, Bucerías is cash-reliant. Many local restaurants, markets, and shops do not accept cards at all. You will need Mexican Pesos (MXN).
  • ATM Best Practices: For safety, never use standalone street ATMs or those inside random pharmacies. Instead, only use official bank ATMs located securely inside large grocery stores (such as the Mega Soriana or La Comer right off Highway 200) or at a physical bank branch. Be sure to alert your home bank of your travel dates in advance.
  • Decline Conversion: When withdrawing cash, the ATM screen displays a prompt asking to "accept the bank's currency conversion rate" Always "DECLINE CONVERSION." Declining this prompt allows your home bank to handle the exchange rate, which saves you an unnecessary 7% to 14% hidden fee that the local ATM company pockets.

Layout of the Town

Bucerías is divided cleanly down the center by Federal Highway 200. Aim to book accommodations on the ocean side of the highway. The beachside area is split into two primary zones by a seasonal riverbed stream (Arroyo del Indio):

  • Zona Dorada (The Golden Zone): Located south of the stream, this area is highly walkable and characterized by cobblestone streets, tranquil cafes, local art galleries, and boutique residential vacation rentals. It is a very peaceful place to integrate somatic work.
  • Centro (Downtown): Located north of the stream, this is the historic center featuring the main town square, the local church, and traditional street markets. It offers a vibrant look at traditional Mexican daily life.

Local Transit & Getting Around

  • Walking: Bucerías is flat and highly walkable.
  • Ride-Sharing & Cabs: Local taxis are abundant and safe. They operate based on set zones rather than meters, so always ask and agree on the fare price before getting into the car. Uber also operates reliably throughout Bucerías and provides an easy way to move around without worrying about physical cash.

Packing for February Weather

February brings absolutely spectacular weather to the Riviera Nayarit. Days are bright, sunny, and incredibly comfortable, staying around 80°F (26°C) with minimal humidity. However, because the ocean air meets the desert breeze, the temperature drops rapidly after sunset. Evenings routinely cool down into the low 60s°F (16°C), so it is vital that you pack a light jacket, sweater, or wrap for dinner and nighttime walks.

Please take some time to book your lodging early. February is the peak of the winter season here, and spaces book out entirely months in advance - IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF THE LOCATION of your lodging write me charlesridley@icloud.com, iMessage or Whatsapp: +52 322 141-6494 before you book, unless the booking is reundable.

If you have any remaining questions about your arrival logistics, please don't hesitate to reach out. charlesridley@icloud.com, iMessage or Whatsapp: +52 322 141-6494

I look forward to exploring the depths of stillness together soon.

Warmly,
Charles
